Singing

Posted on Updated on

What is this word? What does it mean?

It SAVED my life! That’s what it means to me.

It keeps you trim…and you sweat as much as those in the gym.

You become a ‘social anthropologist’ through observation of the different tribes you experience each time you win a contract.

How did it save my life you ask? As a child, I was surrounded by violence and a dysfunctional family. But I grew up in a community where going to and being part of a church environment allowed you to escape the beatings and the fearful environment.

Singing, humming and listening to music was a collection of activities that made me feel safe and inspired. The church community activities engaged with musicals, costume and prop making and fairs to raise funds. Xmas was beautiful in the church hall. I would help on the stalls, as young as I was.

I surrounded myself with these activities. And as it happened, it was noted I had a clear singing voice. Perfect pitch they used to say; I had no idea what they were talking about but I do now. I was encouraged to take part in the shows and the church choir. The feeling of excitement and happiness overshadowed the darkness of beatings and violence at home.

Singing means emotion: you experience it with every controlled word attached to the musical rhythm and musical note value.

Singing means stronger muscles: the breath control you have to experience turns your lungs into strong muscles and that demands more breath increasing your heart rate which burns more calories.

Singing improves your diction: standard spoken English can be incredibly improved by learning to sing. Singing a phrase to musical notation automatically tells you to control each sound you experience.

Just 3, the magic number, things to consider if you are considering learning to sing. Others are: your mental health improves by the secretion of serotonin as your emotions activate the happiness and excitement singing stimulates. A benefit to improve your wellbeing on the whole.

Singing has been part of my life on a pleasurable and professional level. It is a respected activity in the world of music and singing unlike the commercial contests that are interested in the business of making money out of you.

You can earn a living professionally if you are passionate about learning and practicing the art. With Karaoke now an add to allow you to enjoy your new art and singing lessons available at 3MT with Manchester Shakespeare Company and its experienced and qualified musicians, you could find yourself with.

It is an activity = good health, mental and physical wellbeing.

At The Three Minute Theatre, Afflecks, Oldham Street, M1 1JG singing lessons can and will achieve this for you. There are many who believe they have enough experience and knowledge to teach you but with any activity there are risks. As a practiced professional singer since the age of 7 with a wealth of knowledge of the practice and music, you will safely learn how to thoroughly enjoy the full experience of singing for physical and mental wellbeing.

We’ve been working with the best in the industry and our staff are lovely. Jake Latchford our Bar Manager is a successful DJ and businessman. And he’s a great member of the Affleck’s team.

singing Sing your way out of trouble! Come along to our acting and or singing lessons and let your feeling of wellbeing take you on a new and inspiring journey. It is an adventure you may never have considered. Give it a go! Contact: gina@manchestershakespearecompany.co.uk for more information.

All the best from all at 3MT and MSC!

The Theatre Factory

Introduction to 3MT and SCT Theatre Factory3mt theatre factory 2.jpg ‘Thank you to Hayley Ellis for supporting 3MT and thank you Alex Harding for your help with the acting groups’. And thank you to all who supported the ‘3MT Needs You’ crowdfunder.

The past five years have been expensive but very satisfying. It’s wonderful to see artists, filmmakers, playwrights, poets, comedians and musicians progress. Chloe Jones, Lloyd Eyre Morgan and Square Peg are still on that important journey we’ve been on and come back again.

The Theatre Factory is the next leg of the journey. The plan is to seek out those not in the industry or straight out of University. The cost of University has slammed the door in the face of flourishing talent. It’s something I know well from my own experience when leaving school with few options.

Most of the Factory events are interactive for those with experience and those with little experience but talented. Feel free to join us. Just let us know what you want to do so we can be clear about whether it’s doable. Keep it respectable, purposely entertaining, and you never know where it might end up.

Square Circle Theatre is a Community Interest Company. It intends to raise funds to support the shy, reticent but clearly talented individual. For example, we’ve been trying to encourage a young but very talented man to engage with 3MT for two years. With the SCT plans, he may. We’ll seek funds to support him with a scholarship.

That said, it’s fair to say we’ve contributed to the Manchester scene for five years. Our sights are now firmly on community interests. Working alongside Manchester Shakespeare Company’s entry level programme with a level 1 Actor Training Scheme, MSC has handed this over to SCT. Thank you!

Manchester Shakespeare Company trailer of performances from 2014 to 2015

Manchester Shakespeare Company is now an established entity in Afflecks, Manchester. Touring is its focus this year. John Topliff, MSC writer will be busy with ‘Will and Anne’ and rewrites.

Gina can only work so many hours a week to make sure she doesn’t exacerbate her chronic conditions. But she will be supporting MSC and SCT with organising groups and funding. If you feel you would like to donate a couple of hours a week that would be fantastic. Thank you!

One last thing, we have been in our industry since children. We’ve seen good and bad entertainment. We’ve carried out an evaluation model which takes at least twelve months to complete. If after the twelve months and rewrites, questionnaires and video interviews our audience is 80% satisfied, then we’re happy too. We’ve premiered several MSC performances that have been through this evaluative model. They’re ready to go out and play.

The MSC Training Centre.

msc poster for 12 week course

The Manchester Shakespeare Company Training Centre for adults has had a great start. Their showcase performance is planned for 6 April.

The 2nd training group is expected to start 18 April. If it’s something you fancy, give it a go. This is not about expecting anyone to be first class actors after 12 weeks. But it does give you the option to enjoy it as a leisure activity or unleash a taste for your journey to go all the way to university level.

Manchester Shakespeare Co and The Three Minute Theatre

Posted on Updated on

Well if there’s one thing 3MT has needed, it’s been a business partner and friend. Manchester Shakespeare Company has been engaged to 3MT the last year and they’re organising a date for their wedding in the New Year.

Their pilot year together has had a few bumps but it’s clear after the success of 12 Nights and its wonderful reviews it’s time for them to get together officially.

Shakespeare’s 400th birthday will be celebrated at 3MT with a Summer Dreaming Musical Theatre performance; an adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The 21st Century has a lot in common with the 60s and 70s in the 20th century. The commonality will be explored by MSC’s writer, John Topliff, you can be sure of that. orange logosJ

It’s phenomenal how something you’ve worked on for three years comes into its own. That’s what’s happened with this comical, entertaining show. It also develops good actors who have been out of the business through no fault of their own. AND! The Manchester Shakespeare Company student suddenly becomes a professional overnight. That’s what we like. With a little tuck here and a few test shows there, they’re out of the student regime and into the world of commercial touring. After of course it’s been through a few rinses of development. That’s how we like to do it. Test it out in the reliable 3MT Venue a few times. Polish and tidy it up and off you go to the first venue on its tour.

So you’re wondering why so many pics? Well, my post is about the theme of beauty. It comes in so many forms, nieces, grandsons, events at 3MT.

You can see the last one there looks like we’re moving out: No, the opposite, we’re moving in, into the new music studio backstage. It’s beautiful experiencing being in a space that’s not a gangway.

And guess what else is moving in? Manchester Shakespeare Co classes for adults and young people coming in through the back door you could say. Moving in with the professionals avoiding the expense of 3 years at Uni. Why not indeed! Arts Awards in hand waiting to give them out to the beautiful people joining us in September and January 2015. A lucky day indeed. Mind you, a poor attempt at a snipe kind of soured a little. I flushed it down the loo, where it belongs.

Really enjoyed John’s stunning writing this past fortnight. Good reviews with constructive responses. And certainly ones we consider as part of the development process our work has to go through. Some great new actors on the scene too.
